History and Development of Futsal

Futsal originated in Uruguay in the 1930s as a way to keep football players fit during the winter months. It quickly gained popularity and spread to other South American countries, Europe, and eventually worldwide.

In 1989, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) recognized futsal as an official sport and established the FIFA Futsal World Cup, the sport's most prestigious international tournament.

Rules and Regulations of Futsal

Futsal follows a set of specific rules and regulations to ensure a fair and enjoyable game:

  • The game is played in two 20-minute halves.
  • Players can only hold the ball for a maximum of 4 seconds.
  • Unlimited substitutions are allowed.
  • Goalkeepers can use their hands inside their penalty area but cannot pick up the ball if it has been deliberately passed to them.
  • Fouls result in free kicks or penalty kicks, depending on the severity of the offense.
